Improvement after a supplement is not the same as a comparative result
A worked sleep-research example explains the difference between a change within one group and a difference between study groups.
Start with the comparison. A before-and-after change alone cannot isolate the contribution of an ingredient.
Turn the search into a specific research question
Does it help sleep can mean falling asleep faster, sleeping longer, waking less often, or feeling less tired the next day. A study does not necessarily measure all of these. Decide which outcome matters to the question, then check whether the paper measured it.

What changed besides the ingredient?
A result measured after a study begins can reflect changes in routine, natural variation, or measurement timing. A comparison group helps establish what happened over the same period under another condition.
Randomized, placebo-controlled describes a design. It does not mean every improvement mentioned in the abstract was better than placebo. Look for an actual between-group result for the particular outcome, rather than carrying a design label into the conclusion.
The same ten-minute improvement, three interpretations

All three could be described as a ten-minute improvement. The comparisons tell different stories. The simple differences in A and B still do not establish statistical significance or a personally meaningful benefit.
Keep the units and the observation period
Three points on a questionnaire and three minutes of sleep latency are different outcomes. Check the scale, whether a higher number is better or worse, and when the result was measured. A brief observation and a longer follow-up answer different questions.
The size of an estimated difference is separate from how precisely it is known. If the available abstract omits confidence intervals or other information about variability, keep that uncertainty visible rather than inferring a reliable effect from the average alone.
Write a conclusion that keeps the comparison intact
Instead of writing sleep improved, note the participants, comparison condition, measured sleep outcome, and observation period. If only the supplement group's change is reported, write that the abstract reports a within-group change but does not establish the comparison you need.
